Background of the Organization

Who We Are

Illiteracy and Poverty Alleviation Assistance Organization (IPAO) is a registered, non-profit development organization based in Bangladesh, dedicated to restoring dignity and improving the quality of life for underserved communities. Since 1996, IPAO has been a driving force behind impactful, people-centered solutions that address the root causes of poverty, with a strong commitment to environmental sustainability and community resilience.

What We Stand For

At the heart of IPAO’s mission are three flagship pillars:

WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene)

We believe that access to clean water and safe sanitation is a basic human right. IPAO designs and delivers sustainable WASH interventions to reduce disease, restore dignity, and promote healthier communities.

— Installation of deep tube wells, solar-powered water pumps, and rainwater harvesting systems
— Construction of disabled-friendly toilets, handwashing stations, and hygiene training for families and schoolchildren
— Behavior change campaigns promoting menstrual hygiene, safe waste disposal, and water conservation

Food Aid & Nutritional Support

In a country vulnerable to climate-induced hunger, our food security work ensures no family is left behind.

— Emergency food aid during floods, cyclones, and droughts
— Distribution of nutrition packages for pregnant mothers, children, and the elderly
— Long-term food security planning in partnership with local authorities

Smart Agriculture & Livelihoods

To tackle rural poverty, IPAO promotes modern, sustainable, and climate-resilient farming practices that empower smallholder farmers to adapt and thrive.

— Promotion of tricho-compost and biofertilizer to replace harmful chemical inputs
— Use of solar-powered irrigation for cost-effective and eco-friendly farming
— Introduction of hydroponic cultivation, smart mushroom farming, and climate-resilient seeds
